February 9 - A Simple Obsession

(DEUTSCHER TEXT UNTEN)

Join us on Friday, February 9th 2018 for Basic Electricity #25, a concert with Mark Verbos and Perpetual Ash at the König Otto in Berlin, Neukölln.

Mark Verbos makes music and modules. After 20 years of producing and performing in some of the most significant venues around the world, the former Buchla tech set up his own synthesizer company, Verbos Electronics. Mark Verbos is known for his unique live sets, which he improvises on the modular system he designed.

Perpetual Ash is music made by Ashley M Puente - a performer, improviser, and visual artist - using a Eurorack modular and other electronics. Her music and visual artwork are inspired by the 60's and 70's light and space movement that emerged in California.

König Otto is housed in the former Kindl brewery. It’s an amazing space with a great ambient sound.

November 24 - The Sense of Sound

Join us on Friday, November 24th for Basic Electricity #24, a concert with Thomas Ankersmit and Konstantine Fioretos at the König Otto in Berlin, Neukölln.

Thomas Ankersmit explores the boundaries of sound with his Serge modular synthesizer. He has shaken the walls and cast his inner-ear illusions in venues like Berlin’s Berghain and the Tate Modern in London.

Konstantine Fioretos contests the notion of what constitutes a modular performance, exploring jazz and contemporary orchestral music forms by probing at the hidden opportunities inside obsolete MIDI sound devices.

König Otto is housed in the former Kindl brewery. It’s an amazing space with a great ambient sound. We’re looking forward to seeing you on November 24th for Basic Electricity #24!

October 19 - In the Jungle

Join us on Thursday, October 19th for Basic Electricity #23 with Rastko and Plastiq Phantom at the König Otto in Berlin, Neukölln.

Rastko makes ‘Free Electronics’ - music that ranges from minimal to noisy chaotic analogue feedback. In concert, he fearlessly explores the wilder side of his synths. Click here for videos and here for an interview with Rastko.

Plastiq Phantom play their “Concerts for 2 to 6 Instruments in Love Major” at Basic Electricity #23 to reveal the softer side Goldwiener, normally known for acid house workouts. Prepare to be seduced!

September 28 - Switched On

Join us on Thursday, September 28th for Basic Electricity #22 with Michael Vorfeld and Wouter Jaspers at the König Otto in Berlin, Neukölln.

Michael Vorfeld treats us to his Glühlampenmusik, an audio-visual performance using sounds that are generated by different light bulbs and electric switches, made audible by microphones and pick-ups. His buzzing, flickering, rhythmic music could be the definition of basic electricity.

We’re very happy to welcome Wouter Jaspers back for his second appearance at Basic Electricity. The Koma Elektronik head-honcho and Vatican Analog artist uses field recordings and synth textures to make music that is at times delicate and brutal.

König Otto is housed in the former Kindl brewery. It’s a unique space with a great ambient sound. Sunset is at 18:50 on September 28th - we’re looking forward to seeing you when the lights go on for Basic Electricity #22!

May 19 - Something New

Join us on Friday, May 19th for Basic Electricity #21 with Lindred and Melfi at the König Otto in Berlin, Neukölln.

Lindred creates hyper-emotional music. Heavily processed textures meet saturnine melodies and elastic vocals. For Basic Electricity, she will be performing a hybrid set with a modular system, laptop and voice, exploring playful chaos and distorted softness.

"Comfort-zone abandonment" is how The Wire described Melfi’s latest tape on Mexico City based label Umor Rex. Melfi uses modular synths to build twisted pop-songs that occasionally slip into tender noise territories.

König Otto is housed in the former Kindl brewery. It’s a unique space with a great ambient sound, perfectly suited to the music of our new guests. You can get an idea of the venue from these videos from our re-opening gig: Trio, Hainbach.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Basic Electricity on Friday, May 19th!

April 21 - Touch Me

Join us on Friday, April 21st for Basic Electricity #20 with Joker Nies, Gino Robair and Richard Scott in our new venue, König Otto in Berlin, Neukölln.

Gino Robair takes a gestural approach to improvising with live electronics, based on 40 years of performance as a percussionist. He uses all four limbs to control parameters polyrhythmically and also makes use of found objects in his work.

Joker Nies has been experimenting with hardware and software based sound-sources since the 1980’s. He describes himself as an ‘electro-sapiens’ and uses his body to influence the circuits in his synthesizers to make new and unexpected connections and sounds.

Composer, improviser, Basic Electricity co-host and modular man-in-a-suitcase, Richard Scott will tickle his latest love, the EMS Synthi A.

The König Otto is housed in the former Kindl brewery. As we found out at our recent re-launch, it’s a unique space with a gigantic sound.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Basic Electricity on Friday, April 21st!

Here’s a taste of the trio, playing at last year’s Superbooth in Berlin’s Funkhaus.

The König Otto is housed in the former Kindl brewery and is run by Nikoletta, the wonderful wife of Basic Electricity stalwart Hainbach.
